How many days and weeks until July 7th?

On the morning of July 7th 2005 four bombs were detonated on London’s transport system: three on Underground trains shortly before nine o’clock, and one on a number 30 bus in Tavistock Square at 9.47. Fifty-two people were killed and more than seven hundred injured. The Underground was shut down, the mobile networks failed under the weight of calls, and much of central London walked home.

On July 7th 1985 Boris Becker, seventeen years old and unseeded, beat Kevin Curren in four sets to take the Wimbledon men’s singles title. He was the first unseeded champion, the first German, and remains the youngest man to have won it. He had arrived with no expectation of surviving the first week.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died at his house in Crowborough, Sussex, on July 7th 1930. He had spent his last decade lecturing on spiritualism to large audiences, and had long resented the fact that Sherlock Holmes, whom he once killed off and was obliged to resurrect, overshadowed everything else he wrote.
