In the UK the tax year (financial) runs from 6 April to the following 5 April. So for example, if we are talking about the tax year 2018/2019 it would start on 6 April 2018 and finish on 5 April 2019. Be careful when talking about financial years as companies can choose to run their accounting years for their statutory accounts for a different 12-month period whilst still processing tax to the standard tax calendar.
When talking about the financial year be clear if you mean the legal tax year or your company’s financial year.
