The four quarters of the year

A calendar quarter is a three-month block. The year divides neatly into four of them, each ending on the last day of its final month. These dates never move, so you can plan around them years ahead.

QuarterMonthsEnds onLength
Q11 January – 31 March31 March90 days (91 in a leap year)
Q21 April – 30 June30 June91 days
Q31 July – 30 September30 September92 days
Q41 October – 31 December31 December92 days

Note that a calendar quarter is not always the same as a financial quarter. The UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April, and many organisations set their own reporting quarters, so business quarter-ends can fall on different dates. If it is the tax year you are counting down to, our weeks left in the UK financial year page has you covered.
